Every year, Verdun Adult Learners’ Day shines a spotlight on the remarkable determination of adult learners who are navigating new paths toward integration, education, and personal growth. At CSAI, we’re thrilled to be part of this long-standing tradition, recognizing the resilience and commitment of immigrants and community members alike.
On February 14th, ten participants were honoured for their dedication to francization, employability programs, and integration into Quebec society. This inspiring event reminds us that learning has no age limit and celebrates the incredible spirit of those embracing education as a tool for change.
First launched in 2004 by the 16-30 Committee of the Verdun Youth Roundtable, Verdun Adult Learners’ Day has become a cherished annual event. Originally part of Quebec Hooked on School Week, it now coincides with UNESCO’s Adult Learners’ Week, an international celebration of lifelong learning.
This initiative is supported by the Borough of Verdun, which recognizes the importance of highlighting the efforts of local institutions and organizations like CSAI. The event aims to honour the curiosity, determination, and joy of learning across all settings—whether in community programs, schools, or training centers.
An Event to Honor and Encourage
Each year, a special gathering is held to celebrate adult learners and their achievements. While the format has evolved over time, the heart of the event remains the same:
This year, the event adapted to ongoing health guidelines. Participants gathered at CSAI’s head office and connected with other groups through videoconference. It was a different format, but the energy and inspiration were as strong as ever.
This year’s event brought together learners from four organizations:
After an opening speech by Verdun’s Mayor, Marie-Andrée Mauger, participants heard heartfelt testimonials from three learners. We are especially proud of our two CSAI representatives, Nataly Aureliana De Biase and Farah Al Neama, who courageously shared their stories of overcoming obstacles and celebrating victories on their learning journeys.
This year’s event also broke records in generosity! Thanks to incredible donors, $2,600 in bursaries were distributed, with awards ranging from $100 to $250. CSAI participants recognized with scholarships included:
Additionally, Jairo Alexander Sanchez Puerto, another CSAI participant, received a gift basket from the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).
A huge thank-you to the organizations that made these awards possible, including:
At CSAI, we see the immense courage it takes to pursue learning as an adult, especially as an immigrant. Verdun Adult Learners’ Day is a powerful reminder that every step forward—whether learning a new language, gaining a new skill, or building a brighter future—is worth celebrating.
Congratulations to all the learners who were recognized this year. Your stories inspire us and remind everyone that it’s never too late to learn, grow, and achieve great things.
